For the FIFA World Cup 2026, the TVM Sport Football Village brought the energy of international football into the heart of Valletta.
Located within the dramatic surroundings of Valletta Ditch at Laparelli Gardens, the TVM Sport Football Village brought together live sport, entertainment and hospitality in a venue unlike any conventional fan zone.
Football Inside Valletta’s Fortifications
The character of the Valletta venue was defined by its monumental limestone walls, historic arches and naturally tiered layout.
A large-format screen and professional sound system formed the centre of the experience, surrounded by picnic-style tables and existing stone terraces that offered different views across the venue. Food and beverage areas, branded installations and partner activations were carefully incorporated without competing with the architecture.
Before the crowds arrived, the scale of the production could be seen clearly. Once the tables and terraces filled with supporters, the historic ditch was transformed into a vibrant open-air stadium.
A Natural Amphitheatre for Live Sport
The structure of the venue gave every fixture a powerful sense of occasion.
Supporters gathered around the screen while others watched from the elevated stone seating built into the fortifications. The high walls enclosed the atmosphere, allowing every reaction from the audience to carry through the space.
As matches became more intense, the entire venue responded together. Conversations stopped, supporters leaned towards the screen and every goal, save and final whistle produced a wave of emotion across the crowd.
Fans arrived wearing national shirts, carrying scarves and displaying their colours with pride. From Norway and England supporters to visitors representing nations from across the tournament, the Football Village became a meeting place for an international community united by the game.
More Than a Match Screening
The experience extended beyond the football itself.
Guests could meet before kick-off, enjoy food and drinks at their tables and remain at the venue after the match. Music and entertainment added energy around selected fixtures, while interactive installations, including the oversized football positioned near the entrance, created memorable photo opportunities.
The combination of sport, hospitality and social entertainment allowed the venue to welcome both dedicated supporters and visitors simply looking for an exciting evening in Valletta.
As daylight disappeared, architectural lighting transformed the stone surroundings. The illuminated walls, packed terraces and central screen created a completely different nighttime atmosphere, turning the venue into one of the tournament’s most recognisable gathering places.
Delivering an Event in a Historic Location
Producing a large public event within Valletta’s fortifications required every technical and operational element to respect the venue.
Screen structures, sound equipment, lighting, hospitality areas, branded installations and audience routes all had to be positioned within the existing architecture. The experience needed to accommodate large crowds while remaining welcoming, comfortable and easy to navigate.
